Farmer’s Market Nutrition Coupon Program Guidelines – Fernie 2025

The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program is a healthy eating initiative that supports farmers’ markets and strengthens food security across British Columbia. Community partner organizations provide coupons to lower-income families, pregnant people, and seniors/elders.

Unfortunately, there has been a change in the program this summer. The Ministry of Health has updated the program eligibility, so we’ll be asking more questions about your household. Some people who have been accepted into the program in years past may not be eligible anymore. We will be reviewing applications carefully and will let every applicant know if they have been accepted, waitlisted or not accepted into the program by June 25th.

Each household enrolled in the program is eligible to receive $27 of coupons every week.  Coupons can be used to purchase vegetables, fruits, nuts, eggs, dairy, herbs, vegetable and fruit plants, meat, fish, and honey. The program runs in Fernie for 13 weeks between July 6th – Sept 28th.

Program Guidelines:

  • Due to a high demand for the program, participants must be consistent in redeeming their coupons.
  • If you need someone else to pick up your coupons, you must notify us beforehand. Details on who to contact will be provided upon acceptance into the program.
  • Coupons not collected by the end of each month will be given to someone on the waitlist, but will not affect your enrolment in the program.
    • For example: If you don’t collect your July coupons, they will be given to someone on the waitlist, but your August coupons will still be available for you to collect at the August 3th market.
  • Please notify us and return your coupons if you no longer wish to participate in the program.
  • Waitlist participants will be notified if and when coupons are available.
  • Coupons are to be used for locally grown fruit, vegetables, herbs, dairy products, eggs, nuts, meat, fish and honey, but not for any prepared foods (breads, baked goods, jerky, meat sticks, jams, etc.). Market Vendors will have a ‘coupon poster’ to signal that they will accept the coupons.
  • Sellers will not give change for FMNCP coupons.
  • Coupons cannot be sold, traded, or duplicated.
